The Jail Collaborative Earns Praise
Recent reported successes of the Allegheny County Jail Collaborative are once again drawing attention, including national recognition. In an address to the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference, U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder singled out the Jail Collaborative while discussing the innovative ways that counties have been using funding provided through the Second Chance Act. He praised the achievements of the collaborative, because they “not only reduced the recidivism rate by half – when comparing participants to a control group – they have also secured a return-on-investment of roughly six dollars saved for every dollar spent on the program.”
Additional recognition for the Collaborative came in Pittsburgh Today and Tomorrow 2013 (p. 19), the annual report from PittsburghTODAY, a civic information nonprofit that monitors regional indicators. In a section of the report on successes in regional governments, the report gives a brief history of the collaborative and highlights some of its successes.
