Choose Your Partner/Caregiver carefully….Your Baby is Counting on You
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to promote community awareness around child abuse and neglect prevention. It is also a time to recognize that we all share in the responsibility of making sure our children are safe. This year’s campaign continues the theme, Choose Your Partner Carefully with a video designed for an audience of young mothers.
DHS in partnership with the Fred Rogers Company; Family Resources; and A Child's Place at Mercy, part of Pittsburgh Mercy Health System, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, engaged students to develop a video they titled “Precious Baby thoughtful Choice” that encourages parents to think carefully about whether a partner is responsible, mature and knowledgeable enough to care for a child. Students from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh designed the video and graphics and others from the Pittsburgh High School for the Creative and Performing Arts provided the vocals.
Along with promoting the new video, DHS and Family Resources will continue to distribute the two brochures produced for last year’s campaign. One brochure provides tips to help parents assess the temperament and experience of a romantic partner before leaving a child with him or her. The second brochure reinforces the message of the first, but expands that message to cover all caregivers. It also includes a tear-off resource for posting important numbers, tips and reminders.
