Member: ReapportionmentBarbara Daly Danko was born in Washington D.C. and has lived in the Regent Square area of Pittsburgh since 1985. She received a B.A. in Economics in 1975 from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. In 1981, she earned a Masters of Public Affairs from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She also received a Post Baccalaureate Certificate in Accounting from Robert Morris in 1994.
Ms. Danko has many years of experience serving government at the federal, state and local levels. Her career includes working for and with the Library of Congress' Congressional Research Service; the National Governors' Association's Committee on Natural Resources and Environmental Management; the State of Texas' Legislative Budget Board; the City of Austin, Texas' Financial Services Department; the City of Pittsburgh Mayor's Office of Management and Budget; and the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority.
Since 1999 she has served as an Adjunct Instructor in Political Science at the Community College of Allegheny County. During the 2010-11 school year, she taught at the University of Pittsburgh.
Ms. Danko is a habitual volunteer in her community. She has held the following positions among others:
- Chair of Pittsburgh's 14th Ward Democratic Committee
- Commissioner on Allegheny County's Human Relations Commission
- Co-director of Regent Square's "Run Around the Square"
- Treasurer of Liberty International Studies Elementary School PTO
- Vice President and Secretary of the Regent Square Civic Association
Ms. Danko officially joined Allegheny County Council as the District 11 Representative during the April 5, 2011, Regular Meeting of Council, when she was sworn into office by the Honorable Nathan Firestone. She was appointed by Council to fulfill the remainder of the term of Rich Fitzgerald, who resigned from office in early 2011.
