Barbara Daly Danko officially joined Allegheny County Council on April 5, 2011, as an appointee replacing Rich Fitzgerald who had resigned to run for County Executive. In November 2011, she was elected to a full four year term as the District 11 Representative.
Ms. Danko, a native of Washington, D.C., holds a B.A. in Economics from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and a Master’s from the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She also holds a Certificate in Accounting from Robert Morris University.
Barbara’s career background includes over 15 years of government service at the federal, state and local levels. These positions focused mainly on public sector budgeting and finance. Since 1999 she has served as an Adjunct Instructor in Political Science at both the Community College of Allegheny County and the University of Pittsburgh.
Ms. Danko has contributed in her community in a variety of ways and has often been tapped as a leader. Her service includes: Chair of Pittsburgh’s 14th Ward Democratic Committee, Co-director of the Run Around the Square, Treasurer of the Liberty Elementary School PTO, and Member of the State Democratic Committee. Barbara was one of the original appointees to the Allegheny County Human Relations Commission and continues to serve in that role.
Barbara has lived in Pittsburgh’s Regent Square neighborhood since 1985 with her husband George. There they have raised their four children: Michael, Elizabeth, Stephen and Joseph.
