Jan Rea is serving her third four-year term as the District 2 Representative for Allegheny County Council. For the past nine years, Jan has worked on property tax reform, economic development initiatives, and public health and welfare matters. Building upon the key accomplishments of her previous terms in office, Jan promotes policies that will help to improve the opportunities for families in her district to grow and prosper in Allegheny County.

Jan has been a Councilwoman since the Council’s inception in 2000, but she remains active in her community. She is a member of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation Board and a board member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania. She is a former board member of the Homeless Children’s Education Fund, the Vietnam Veterans Leadership Program, the Pittsburgh Film Office and the Allegheny County Board of Health.

Jan’s extensive political experience brings a depth of knowledge that benefits the diverse members of the Council. She is a former Republican State Committee member and the former Chair of the Southwest Caucus. She is the former Vice Chair of the Republican Committee of Allegheny County, the former Chair of the McCandless Republican Committee, a founding member of the Pennsylvania Organization for Women Electing Republicans (P.O.W.E.R.), and was a Western Pennsylvania Women’s Coalition Leader during the Tom Ridge-Mark Schweiker campaign.

Jan and her husband, Don, live in the Town of McCandless, which is located in the Northern suburbs of the City of Pittsburgh. Their family includes their son, Barret, his wife, Mollie, and their son, Brad.
