Abstract:
Data was created to portray the boundaries of the 130 Municipalities in Allegheny County the attribute table includes additional descriptive informations including Council of Government (COG) affiliation, School District, Congressional District, FIPS Code, County Municipal Code and County Council District.
Purpose:
Data was developed as part of the effort to establish large scale base data to support a Geographic Information System in Allegheny County.

Data was created in ArcInfo Coverages. The exact origin of this data is unknown. It was included in the datasets assembled in 2000 from the original Sun Workstations containing data put together from 1992 - 1996. It is likely that it was derived from TIGER files in those early days, but it has been manipulated and adjusted to align to the rest of the GIS dataset. Additional attributes have been added.

During Y2K efforts of 1999-2000, data was transferred to Microsoft NT Server running ArcInfo 7 and was made available to county users across the network from a single location.

Additional attributes were added to support the needs of county departments. Boundaries were updated based on river lines and areas, street centerlines and edge of pavement from 2004 updates. Ongoing updates will be made to municipal boundaries as updates and corrections are made to parcel boundaries. PennDOT Municipal Boundaries were used as a reference.
