Getting Started (Intake)

The first step: Contact DHS AAA SeniorLine.

The SeniorLine staff assists callers with information about all the aging-related services provided through the DHS Area Agency on Aging (AAA) including information about senior center activities, care management, home health and many others.

The SeniorLine answers Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 412-350-5460, toll-free 1-800-344-4319, TTY 412-350-2727 or SeniorLine@alleghenycounty.us.

The Assessment Process

Help begins with an assessment of your personal needs.  When you apply for AAA home- and community-based services, we will provide an assessment in your home to determine the most appropriate and effective means of meeting your needs. Some of the services that may be available to you, based on your assessment, include in-home and community-based care, assistance in applying for Medical Assistance for nursing facility placement, or nursing home alternatives.

Professional care managers assist you with information and referral about services and community programs, whether you are looking for programs such as property tax assistance, home-delivered meals, transportation or the closest senior center. If needed, they will help you begin the process of applying for Area Agency on Aging (AAA) home- and community-based services. In addition, I&R  (Information & Referral) staff can also provide assistance with applications to entitlement programs, such as PACE (Pharmaceutical Assistance Contract for the Elderly), LIHEAP (Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program), property tax assistance programs, and rent rebates.
