Anti-Stigma

Often, children, youth and adults who have a mental health diagnosis are treated differently by the people around them due to their illness. The threat of this stigma can be a powerful deterrent that keeps people from pursuing treatment or even discussing their illness and how it makes them feel.  Efforts to end stigma are part of the recovery-centered movement in the behavioral health system.

It’s All About U

It’s All About U is a campaign designed to educate children, school staff, families, and the Allegheny County community about the importance of mental health and the role stigma plays in preventing not only treatment but simple dialog about how we feel. The campaign was administered by the county’s Community Connections for Families (CCF) program. In 2001, the campaign was piloted in five schools.  Currently, the campaign is available to any school in Allegheny County.
