Additional Consumer Support
DHS sponsors several opportunities for providers of DHS-contracted services to enhance the lives of the individuals they serve. Eligibility varies according to the opportunity.
Allegheny County Music Festival Fund
Funds raised by the fund throughout the year may be tapped by DHS-contracted providers on behalf of children they serve to pay for items and opportunities that will enhance the life of the child. Requests must be made formally by a professional working with the child.
Flowering of Insight Art Exhibit
Adults who receive services through DHS are eligible to exhibit and sell their works of art at this annual event. All sale proceeds benefit the artist. Program directors are encouraged to reply to the FOI invitation to participate and encourage their consumers to enjoy this creative outlet. FOI was discontinued after 2010.
Holiday Project
Children whose families are involved with the Allegheny County child welfare system are eligible to receive a donated gift during the winter holiday season. CYF caseworkers may request gifts for those on their rolls.
Project Prom
High school seniors who receive any service through DHS, Juvenile Probation or the Department of Public Welfare, or whose family member(s) receives any service from a listed agency, are eligible to choose, for their use, either a formal gown and accessories from a wide selection of donated formal wear or a gift certificate for a tuxedo rental. Gift certificates are in limited supply and should be requested in early February.
Tickets for Kids
Depending on the event, children, family members and provider chaperones are eligible to receive free tickets to cultural events in the county.
