Older Adults Training and Employment
The Senior Training and Employment Program (STEP) provides work experience and training opportunities to Allegheny County residents age 55 and older who meet income guidelines. Individuals enrolled in the program receive twenty hours of training/work experience in nonprofit or government agencies and are paid minimum wage. In addition to work experience and training, enrollees receive assistance in securing full-time and part-time employment in the private sector. Pre-application must be made for enrollment of services.
Supported employment services help individuals, 18 years of age and older, with serious mental illness find a job. After a person finds a job, the supported employment program staff continues to provide support to the person for as long as the person wants it.
Recipients of TANF or SNAP (food stamps) Training and Employment
The EARN program is designed to help persons who are recipients of either TANF and/or Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/food stamps) get a job or get a better job so they can earn more than they receive from public assistance. People who are interested in participating in EARN must get a referral from their County Assistance Office (CAO) caseworker. HINT: Scroll to bottom of page.
EARN offers assistance all along the path to better employment – from improving basic academic skills to assisting with child care and transportation, through offering supports during the first six months of your employment.
