DHS Individual and Community Health

A healthy community depends on healthy individuals.

Allegheny County supports women before and after they give birth with pre-natal in-home services and supports for infants.

DHS makes available a wide range of services and supports, including peer recovery support, for children, youth and adults who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders and/or substance use disorders.

Through a full compliment of justice-related services, treatment is emphasize rather than incarceration for persons with substance use and/or mental health disorders who are involved in the criminal justice system.

The entire community suffers when violence occurs. Through violence prevention and offender-reintegration programs, DHS works with community organizations to reduce the level of violence on our streets and in our homes.

This section provides detailed information about these topics and more.
