May 9, 2013 Fitzgerald Announces Formation of 23-Member Public Health Commission on Preventing Violence and Promoting Community Mental Health
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald announced today that he has formed a Public Health Commission on Preventing Violence and Promoting Community Mental Health, upon the request of State Representative Ed Gainey. The 23-member Commission has a mission of reducing violence and promoting positive mental health and community well-being in Allegheny County.

April 12, 2013 One Final Day for Project Prom Giveaway
Allegheny County Department of Human Services today announced that the Project Prom Shop will offer eligible high school girls one last chance to choose a free gown and accessories. Located at the Century III Mall, the Project Prom Shop will be open Tuesday, April 23 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. This one-day extension, from the original close date of March16, is due to popular demand.
March 20, 2013 DHS Recognized as a 2013 Honors Laureate
Allegheny County Department of Human Services was named by IDG’s Computerworld Honors Program as a 2013 Laureate in the category of human services. The annual award program honors individuals and organizations whose visionary applications of information technology promote positive social, economic and educational change.
March 15, 2013 Fitzgerald Announces $13.1 Million HUD Grant to Combat Homelessness
Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) has awarded a $13.1 million Continuum of Care grant to the County’s Department of Human Services to assist in its efforts to reduce homelessness. The grant is awarded through a competitive process and includes the renewal of HUD funds to support a continuum of housing and service programs for the homeless of Allegheny County. Specific programs include supportive services, safe havens, transitional housing, and permanent housing for persons with disabilities.
March 8, 2013 DHS KEYS Service Corps Celebrates National AmeriCorps Week, March 9 – 17
Allegheny County Department of Human Services KEYS (Knowledge to Empower Youth to Success) Service Corp will celebrate National AmeriCorps Week by coordinating the following service projects:
- Friday, March 15, Community Beautification Project – assisting Allegheny K-5 magnet school students and faculty in creating fence art, painting sidewalk art games, picking up litter, and preparing gardens for student planting projects.
- Friday, March 15, Braddock Carnegie Library Cleanup – cleaning the woodwork, blinds, windows and provide a general cleaning of this National Historic Landmark.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services today acknowledged the release of a recent report by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) highlighting the Department of Human Services (DHS) Data Warehouse as an example of an integrated system designed to promote data sharing.
February 15, 2013 DHS Project Prom Shop Opens March 11
Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) Project Prom Shop will make available free prom dresses to eligible high school girls whose families may find the cost of buying formal attire prohibitive. Located at the Century III Mall, the Project Prom Shop will be open Monday, March 11 through Thursday, March 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 16 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Allegheny County Department of Human Services and the Allegheny County Jail today released a new publication about the Allegheny County Jail’s new Discharge Center, a key component of the Allegheny County Jail Collaborative’s plan to reduce the recidivism within the county.
January 17, 2012 Project Prom Now Accepting Donations of Formal Attire and Accessories
Project Prom, an initiative of the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS), is now accepting public donations of formal attire for girls and boys at downtown and Bethel Park locations. The Project Prom Shop at Century III Mall will begin accepting donations March 5.
