Marcia M. Sturdivant, Ph.D., Deputy Director
Allegheny County Department of Human Services, Office of Children, Youth and Families

Dr. Marcia M. Sturdivant is the Deputy Director of the nationally recognized Allegheny County Department of Human Services Office of Children, Youth and Families (CYF). Allegheny County CYF is the second largest child welfare agency in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  Marcia received her doctorate in Educational and Developmental Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh and holds a Masters Degree in Criminology/Correctional Science from the University of Detroit.

Dr. Sturdivant is an Assistant Professor, Department of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences at Point Park University, where she received her undergraduate education. President of the Black Child Development Institute-Pittsburgh Affiliate, Dr. Sturdivant lectures extensively on both the local and national level of child abuse and neglect, racism and its effect on child development, developmental needs assessment, and culturally-based intervention for at-risk families.

Dr. Sturdivant has been the recipient of numerous awards and was an invited participant and research panelist of the 2004 Oxford University Educational Roundtable, Oxford, England. Her dedication to helping families extends to the community by serving on numerous boards, including The Urban League of Pittsburgh, Inc., The Pennsylvania Statewide Adoption Council, The Pennsylvania Joint State Government Commission on Services to Children and Youth and The American Association of Family Group Decision Making. Dr. Sturdivant’s commitment to persons of color extends globally and she was highlighted in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette for her work with Somalian refugees.

Dr. Sturdivant has committed her personal and professional life to improving the quality of life for children and being a voice for those who are unable to advocate for themselves. Dr. Sturdivant is married to Larry Anderson, Sr. and is the proud mother of two sons, Larry Jr. and Marshall.
