Turn a Working Lunch into a Walking Lunch
Courthouse Courtyard at Noon
Walk @ Lunch Map (Station Square)
National Walk @ Lunch Day is a national workplace walking initiative designed to encourage you to take a walk during your lunch break. Since walking briskly for 30 minutes can burn up to 200 calories for the average person, a daily walking program can be an effective way to manage weight and blood pressure. Regular physical activity can improve stamina and reduce fatigue during the work day and at home.
Unite with walkers across the country on April 30, 2014 for National Walk @ Lunch Day and take steps toward a healthier company and a healthier you! If you are in the downtown area meet your co-workers at Noon in the County Courtyard to kick off the 10,000 Step Challenge and for a walk to Station Square and back.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services estimates the cost to treat illness and chronic disease caused by inactive lifestyles is nearly $1,000 for every family in America, every year. Simply getting 30 minutes of moderate physical activity, such as a brisk walk, at least five times a week has significant health benefits, lowering the risk of developing or dying from cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes and improving the health of muscles, bones and joints.
Did You Know that by participating in National Walk @ Lunch Day you can receive credit under Step 3 ("Participate in two Wellness Programs") of Wellness Rewards? From the Wellness Rewards home page click on “Health and Wellness Programs” under Step 3, click on “Sponsored by Employer,” click on “Race/Walkathon,” use the calendar and choose April 30, 2014 as your participant date.
Don’t stop with National Walk @ Lunch day, keep moving! Continue walking away from inactive behavior by participating in the 10,000 Step Challenge, a 12-week program to help you stretch your daily physical lifestyle further, one step at a time.
With the use of a pedometer to track your progress and a personal commitment to increase your activity during the 12-week program, you are only steps away from having a healthier way of life.
Join us on Wednesday, April 30 and begin walking toward a healthier America - and a healthier you!
