Job Summary
Under the direct supervision of a manager or supervisor, conduct forensic analyses on evidence submissions of varying complexity and difficulty.
Training and Experience
Master of Science degree/or Bachelor of Science Degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science.
Requirement
Security clearance.
Major Duties
- Accurately conducts forensic analysis/examination and reports results.
- Maintains complete documentation of examination/analysis conducted.
- Writes reports entailing the results from examination/analysis conducted.
- Appears in court to testify as to the procedures followed during examination/analysis of evidence and interpretation of results.
- Maintains strict chain of custody and preserves the integrity of evidence in all cases.
- Conducts forensic analysis on evidence submissions of varying complexity and difficulty.
- Writes reports entailing the results from examination/analysis conducted.
- Works under the direct supervision of a higher level scientist or supervisor.
- Participates in training and supervising lower level scientists.
- Communicates analytical procedures, methodology, policies and conclusions to various elements in the criminal justice system including court testimony as an expert witness.
- Participates in a proficiency testing program.
- Assists in preventive maintenance of Laboratory instruments and safety equipment.
- Maintains and performs minor repairs on equipment.
- Participates in continuing education and training programs in the analysis of forensic evidence of a more complex and difficult nature.
- Receives a satisfactory evaluation of job performance.
- Develops and implements new analytical procedures.
- Conducts peer/technical and administrative review of other scientist/s analysis/examination results report.
