Local American Gold Star Mothers found a sponsor and a home for the Allegheny County chapter in the Soldier's and Sailor's Memorial Hall. Mothers who have lost a son or daughter in war know that no one else knows how you feel like another mother who has lost a child. And that there's a solace in being in an organization where no one wanted to qualify to belong. Their next meeting is on Aug. 14 at 2 pm.

October 22, 2010 is "A Day to Honor Our Southwestern PA Vietnam Veterans." This event is to show these American heroes just how grateful we are for their service to our country. They all deserved a hero’s welcome when they came home – and they still do. This is a special day and all of our nation’s veterans will be welcomed with open arms – please help spread the word! There will be music, food and fun for the entire day!

The Council News begins the June issue with an article about the Council's recognition of Prostate Awareness Week in Allegheny County. Robin Cole of the Obediah Cole Foundation for Prostate Cancer and former Pittsburgh Steeler spoke of the dangers of prostate cancer at Council's June meeting. Three maps of the Parks have been updated and can be found on the Parks maps page under "GIS Maps of Blazed & Paved Trails." The South Park map is now two pages. The North Park Central map adds 2 connector trails to North Ridge. The North Park Southern map includes the brown trail that goes around the sand hill.
