The YMCA’s Community Helping Alliance for Neighborhood Goals in Education and Service (Y-CHANGES) will participate in a service day at Kane Glen Hazel on Thursday, Jan. 21.
As part of the Collegiate YMCA community outreach program, Y-CHANGES unites high school students from diverse backgrounds and communities in the Pittsburgh area to promote community change. Y-CHANGES sets out to minimize prejudice and increase understanding among youth in the city and suburban partnership schools.
The 40 students who will participate in the Kane Glen Hazel event will be from Oliver High School and North Hills High School. Their ages range from 14 to 18 years old.
After a continental breakfast, the students will either assist residents as they play Family Feud and Password games, or engage in a service project to makeover bulletin boards in resident rooms. A salad and pizza lunch will be followed by a question-and-answer session and discussion about the students’ experience at Kane.
