Kane Glen Hazel Residents visit Playmor Lanes
Kane Glen Hazel incorporated bowling into the facility’s therapeutic recreation schedule on April 27 as four residents visited Brunswick Playmor Lanes on Buttermilk Hollow Road.
“We had a wonderful off ground trip,” said Kathi Lindsley, Therapeutic Recreation Manager at Kane Glen Hazel. “We took four residents and we bowled two games. The residents got some healthy exercise, and they had some healthy competition going too. Two residents are regular, seasoned bowlers. The other two were bowling for the first time in their life.”
Kane Glen Hazel was represented by two men and two women at the lanes. “The women beat the men,” Lindsley said. “Better luck next time fellows.”
Lindsley said bowling is an effective way to boost spirits and provide exercise to the residents.
“The facility is always accommodating for us,” Lindsley said, noting that the residents are provided 14-pound bowling balls. “Playmor Lanes provides an assistive ramp and offers to put bumper pads in place. We accept the ramp but never the bumper pads. By bowling without them, we are mainstreamed back into the community and reconnected with our peers. The ramp holds our ball but gives us complete control over directionality and accuracy.”
