PITTSBURGH — Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato today celebrated the dedication of the new Rivermont Senior Apartments at the John J. Kane Regional Center in Glen Hazel. The 12 independent living units are part of the continuum of care outlined in the County Executive’s Kane Action Plan.
“I introduced a first-of-its-kind plan to give Allegheny County residents access to a continuum of care to meet the changing needs of our population,” said Onorato. “Over the last several years, we have added new services at the Kane Centers, including dementia units at Glen Hazel and transitional care units at Scott. Today, we celebrate the addition of independent living units at Glen Hazel. And, we continue to provide skilled-nursing and rehabilitation services at all four centers. Thanks to the Kane Action Plan, Allegheny County residents and their families can choose the services that best meet their needs.”
Each unit includes a kitchen, living room, bedroom and bathroom. Rental fees are $825 per month for a 617-square-foot unit, $850 per month for a 716-square-foot unit, and $875 per month for a 975-square-foot unit. Rent includes standard utilities and lunch in the building’s common room/kitchen area. The facility also offers a secure entry with 24-hour personnel, library, off-street parking, outdoor patio and balcony, as well as laundry facilities and private storage lockers on each floor.
The apartments are available to seniors 62 years of age and older, regardless of income, and they are fully accessible to people with disabilities. Rivermont residents will also have access to programs and services offered at Kane-Glen Hazel.
The Rivermont Senior Apartments were constructed in an existing wing of Kane-Glen Hazel that previously housed administrative offices and institutional laundry facilities. The project included internal demolition and renovation on the third floor of the main center to house new administrative offices. Once the offices had moved, crews conducted internal demolition on the two floors of the wing and converted the space into the new apartment complex. The total cost of the project was $5.8 million, which was funded by a grant from the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania through a Pennsylvania Department of Welfare program.
“We appreciate the support we have received from the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare, Jewish Healthcare Foundation and other organizations that have helped with the implementation of the Kane Action Plan,” added Onorato.
