Kane Ross residents enjoy national pastime, exercise right to vote

Residents at the John Kane Regional Center in Ross Township enjoyed a bit of “Americana” during National Nursing Home Week.

On May 12, a group of residents and staff attended the Pittsburgh Pirates afternoon game against the Cincinnati Reds at PNC Park. Residents who remained at Ross had an opportunity to participate in the theme by wearing Pirates or baseball attire during a movie presentation.

“Baseball is America’s pastime,” said Dana Nicodemus, Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor at Kane Ross. “Many of our residents fondly recall the Pirates’ glory days when Roberto Clemente, Willie Stargell and Bill Mazeroski wore black and gold. So, being able to attend a game at a beautiful ballpark like PNC Park is special.”

The following day, Kane Ross residents participated in another great American tradition by exercising their right to vote for the upcoming primary election.

“The residents vote using absentee ballots, so the election volunteers come to our facility for the residents to be able to properly fill out their ballots,” Nicodemus said. “Our residents realize how important their vote is, and this process enables them to participate in the election.”
