The John Kane Regional Center in Glen Hazel is presenting a series of programs to provide educational information and support to families of Kane residents as well members of the community.

The Kane Family Forums are intended to help families deal with difficult issues affecting their loved ones.

“At Kane Glen Hazel, we want to help our residents and their families learn as much as possible about the health conditions that affect the entire family,” said Judy Fockler, Social Services Supervisor at Kane Glen Hazel. “This is an important step. The better the family understands the illness or health issues, the more prepared the family will be to accept and meet the challenges associated with the illness.”

The first Family Forum entitled “The Elephant in the Room” will be presented by Family Hospice from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on May 20 in the main conference room at Glen Hazel. The Forum will focus on difficult, yet critical conversations about the challenges associated with a loved one’s deteriorating health condition. The Forum will include discussions with family members of those residents whose health conditions are in decline.

Another Family Forum entitled “Dealing with Dementia” will be presented by the Alzheimer’s Association on June 10. The Forum will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. at the main conference room in Glen Hazel. That discussion is intended to assist family members whose loved ones have Alzheimer’s.
