The John Kane Regional Center at Glen Hazel kicked off its summer schedule of activities a few days early with the popular “Grill and Chill” Father’s Day event.
The Dietary Department staff grilled hot dogs and served beverages in the Glen Hazel courtyard. Kane Glen Hazel has approximately 72 male residents, many of whom participated in the annual tribute to fathers.
“The Grill and Chill event was quite successful and once again was a big hit with residents and the staff,” said Kathi Lindsley, Therapeutic Recreation Manager at Glen Hazel. “We offered grilled hot dogs and assorted pop and non-alcoholic beer. Our staff was encouraged to help escort residents to the courtyard and take a few minutes to enjoy a hot dog with them. There was a constant flow of people into the courtyard. We were grateful that the weather cooperated, too.”
Additionally, Kane Glen Hazel residents had an opportunity to enjoy a return appearance by the Mount Ararat Gospel Choir. The nine-member group has been well-received at Glen Hazel during past performances and had the group in a festive mood during the June 21 appearance.
“The Mount Ararat Gospel Choir led us in worship and praise,” Lindsley said. “Forty-five residents and staff attended the event. They sang, clapped and danced to the lively, upbeat music.”
Another program began on June 22 and will run through July 27. Glen Hazel will host five youths and their respective sponsors in “Week of Hope Pittsburgh” each Tuesday and Thursday during that stretch.
“The youths will assist residents through socialization, activities, storytelling, off-ground trips, bingo, crafts, cooking, going outside for fresh air,” Lindsley said. “The group is called Week of Hope Pittsburgh and the participants are from all over.”
