Residents at the John Kane Regional Center in Glen Hazel were entertained both inside and outside the facility during one mid-July week.

A performance by “G Wizz,” a one-man band, was well received. The variety hour included guitar and keyboard selections and crowd interaction.

“Residents sang along, answered musical trivia questions and even danced,” said Kathi Lindsley, Therapeutic Recreation Manager at Glen Hazel. “He used a few props and changed hats and added a sports coat at one point in the program.  It was upbeat and engaging.”

The second annual family picnic was held for residents of  the secured unit on floor 4B-Glen Harbor.  “ We attempt to get all the residents of that unit outside to the courtyard for fresh air,” Lindsley said. “We feel this is an opportunity for their families to experience a positive interaction and moment of joy with their loved one within the context of a structured activity. The family picnic was a success. Most of the residents on the unit were able to come outside to the courtyard for the event.”

Lindsley said 11 family members assisted the staff from the unit and various department managers. Residents were served grilled hot dogs, boneless chicken breasts, baked beans, macaroni salad, watermelon, iced tea, lemonade and ice cream sandwiches.

Albert Pantone, TR therapist on the unit, and a resident created personalized paper tablecloths that were on all the tables for the event. Residents who could not come outside were served picnic fare on their unit.
