Representatives from 13 hospice centers in the Greater Pittsburgh region met with administrators and staff at the Kane Regional Center in McKeesport to discuss patient care and how to assist families whose loved ones are in hospice care.
Kane McKeesport Administrator Charlene Flaherty said the July 22 meeting was productive on a number of fronts.
“We addressed many important issues with a focus on patient care,” Flaherty said. “We discussed ways to improve communications between the center and the hospices. We reviewed policies and procedures. The ultimate goal is to improve the lives of our residents and their families.”
Representatives from the following hospices attended the meeting: Asera Hospice; Bethany Hospice; Cedars Community Hospice; Family Hospice; Gateway Hospice; Harmony Hospice; Hope Hospice; Horizon Hospice; Interim Healthcare; Odyssey Hospice; Sivitz Jewish Hospice; Three Rivers Hospice; and Vitas.
“Improving patient care is always our top priority and we’re always exploring ways to continue improving that care,” Flaherty said. “We provide respite care for residents who reside at home and we addressed issues that affect those patients and their families as well as the hospice staff. Meeting with the 13 hospice centers, we have strengthened an already established line of communication that we feel will only benefit our residents and their families.”
