Residents at the John J. Kane Regional Center in Scott Township participated in a “Wheelchair Square Dance” as part of Allegheny County’s “Day of Caring” event on Oct. 22.
The popular Wheelchair Square Dance created a festive atmosphere at Kane Scott. A total of 14 volunteers representing four Allegheny County departments assisted in the “Day of Caring” event.
“The Wheelchair Square Dance went very well,” said Marci Donovan, Recreation Therapy Supervisor at Kane Scott. “If the residents weren’t up on the floor square dancing, they were in their chairs clapping along. The 14 volunteers representing Allegheny County were a great help. We can’t do something this big without the help of many people.”
The “Day of Caring” began with a morning social for residents and volunteers.
“After some visiting, the volunteers and residents practiced the square dances for the afternoon,” Donovan said. “We had a lot of fun, clapping, and laughing. It was a memorable afternoon.”
