Allegheny County 911 each participated in the “Day of Caring” event at Kane Ross. The John J. Kane Regional Center in Ross Township reached new heights during the “Day of Caring” sponsored by the United Way on Oct. 22.
Activities began at 10 a.m. with a pumpkin pie and coffee social on each floor of the center. Allegheny County employees volunteered to gather the residents, serve the pie and coffee, and socialize.
Following lunch, John Lege, also known as “That Guy with the Birds,” put on an educational exotic bird presentation. Lege has produced educational parrot programs since 1980.
“The ‘That Guy with the Birds’ presentation was simply phenomenal,” said Sue Crump, Volunteer Coordinator at Kane Ross. “John actually rescued the birds that he features in his presentation. One of those birds was Winston Churchill’s bird. It was very exciting. A lot of our residents posed for photos with the birds and the smiles on their faces said it all.”
