A home style Christmas Carol sing-a-long and a candle light ceremony helped residents, family members, volunteers and staff at the John J. Kane Regional Center in McKeesport ring in the holiday season.
‘Candle Light Night’ has become a popular tradition at Kane McKeesport. Staff and volunteers sang to the residents as everyone waited for the arrival of Santa Claus and the traditional illumination of the Christmas trees in the lobby and two courtyards.
“Candle Light Night is a beautiful and heart-felt event that helps everyone at Kane get into the holiday spirit,” said Charlene Flaherty, Administrator at Kane McKeesport. “Residents, volunteers and staff as well as their families, share together in an evening of song and traditional holiday events.”
A line of residents, volunteers and staff’s family members stretched out the main entrance as children waited to be photographed with Santa. Punch and cookies were served.
One of the most beautiful features of the Candle Light Night event involved a procession of people carrying candles lit in the lobby and taken to the outdoor Luminaria.
“It is a heartfelt ceremony that is appreciated by all of those in attendance,” Flaherty said.
