Public Works

Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of 408 miles of roadway and 518 bridges within Allegheny County, and it also purchases and maintains the county’s fleet of more than 800 vehicles and heavy equipment. It is comprised of four divisions: Maintenance Operations, Engineering and Construction, Accounting and Administration, and Safety. By continually exceeding industry standards of performance, the department has been accredited four times by the American Public Works Association (APWA) since 2007 and is the first and only agency in Pennsylvania to have received the prestigious honor.

Road or Bridge Help

Use the Allegheny County Support Center to ask a question or report a concern with a county-maintained road or bridge to Public Works staff. That might include potholes, pavement condition, roadway drainage problems, signage or pavement marking changes, snow and ice issues, overgrown vegetation, damaged guide rails, litter, permitting, vehicle or property damage, and more.

Prior to submitting a question or concern, please check if it pertains to a road or bridge maintained by Allegheny County by viewing the "Who Owns My Road?" and "Who Plows My Road?" maps. In addition to Allegheny County, local roads and bridges are maintained by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), municipalities, and other entities.
