Greensburg Pike Project

Blue Arrow Traffic Alerts

The County’s Greensburg Pike Bridge Project is a $20 million, two-year construction project that will construct a new bridge over Turtle Creek. The new structure will be built just down stream of the existing bridge and will then be tied into the existing roadway. The old bridge will then be demolished to complete the project.

The existing steel truss bridge, called Turtle Creek Bridge No. 6 carries Greensburg Pike over Turtle Creek, from North Versailles Township to Turtle Creek Borough. The existing bridge will remain open for approximately another year.

During the first year of the project, no road restrictions will occur as the contractor constructs the new bridge. But in the fall of 2012 Greensburg Pike will close at the old bridge for approximately ten (10) months. Utility lines will be relocated to the new structure and the contractor will tie the road into the new bridge.

Project Scope
  • The project was bid on June 23, 2011 through the PENNDOT ECMS system, Brayman Construction was the low bidder at $16,235,956.
  • The County executed the contract and issued Brayman the Notice To Proceed on September 7, 2011.
  • Overall completion of the project will occur May, 2014.
  • The project entails building a new four span bridge just down stream of the existing bridge. Challenges  are building the new structure over busy Norfolk Southern lines, Turtle Creek and a private rail spur.
  • When the existing bridge closes in the summer of 2013, there will be a detour in place. The detour will direct traffic in Turtle Creek Borough along Tri-Boro Expressway, exit onto Patton Street in Wilmerding, turn onto Fifth Avenue, turn onto Route30 West and return to Greensburg Pike. Traffic in North Versailles Borough will use the detour in reverse.
