Preventing Violence An ARRA two-year grant will sustain and expand One Vision One Life (OVOL) by providing for the compensation of three current Community Coordinators and the hiring of three additional Community Coordinators. OVOL, the DHS-contracted Allegheny County Violence Prevention program, works in the high-risk Pittsburgh neighborhoods of the Northside, the Hill District, the Southside, Homewood North and Garfield Heights as well as in several communities outside the city, including McKeesport and McKees Rocks. The program focuses intervention and outreach on those most at risk for participating in or falling victim to violence, young African American men. This Edward Byrne Memorial Competitive grant is through the U.S. Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs Bureau of Justice Assistance. The grant will provide funding to OVOL through July of 2011.

These detectives and attorneys work together in the Gun Violence Unit to continue efforts to successfully strategize on how to focus on repeated offenders and those individuals who have been identified as violent threats to the community.

Crime & Delinquency – Crisis Intervention This funding will allow for training of additional officers from the 109 municipal police departments within Allegheny County for the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). The CIT educates law enforcement about the characteristics of mental illness and provides training designed to teach officers how to de-escalate calls involving mental health and behavioral health issues.

Crime & Delinquency – Tagging, Tracking and Locating System This initiative will analyze the use of geo-location technologies leveraging Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to track and ensure the accountability of parolees, including sexual and violent offenders.

Crime & Delinquency – Probation Day Reporting Center The 2nd Day Reporting Center will be a multi-service center that will increase the level of supervision of probationers and provide a multitude of needed offender services. The services that will be offered will address drug and alcohol issues, education, job training, and life skills, among other things.

Crime & Delinquency – E-filing Enhancements This project will expand the e-filing capabilities of the Court and Department of Court Records to other divisions of the Court. Capabilities include accepting e-filed court orders and other documents, which will allow litigants to e-file documents with the Court and Department of Court Records. They will also be able to provide electronic service of e-filed court orders to all case participants and incorporate Business Activity Monitoring.
