Child Care Worker (Part-Time)
Child Care Workers directly supervise residents. Supervision includes attention to order and security, control of disruptive behavior, observation of physical and emotional conditions, and protection of the physical environment. Child Care Workers are also responsible for safety, health, well-being and development of residents. Child Care Workers interact with residents and participate with them in constructive activities. They also report observations about residents to supervisors and other staff. Child Care Workers report to Child Care Supervisors.
Duties:
- To plan and supervise resident activities in accord with Shuman Center’s philosophy, values, policies and procedures.
- To guarantee security through close supervision and by conscientiously following security regulations and procedures.
- To keep order and maintain control of behavior by means of techniques based on knowledge of adolescent behavior.
- To inspect the physical environment to minimize dangers to security, health and safety.
- To protect the physical environment from vandalism.
- To search residents thoroughly in accord with procedures.
- To observe the behavior and condition of residents, and record observations in the unit and on the resident development record.
- To encourage resident development by teaching and modeling socially acceptable attitudes and behavior.
- To report serious behavior problems to supervisors, particularly in instances requiring disciplinary action
- To write concise, factual observation reports on significant events.
- To observe each resident at specified intervals during sleeping hours and when confined to rooms, and record these observations according to procedures.
- To perform one-on-one supervision of residents on isolation and enter in a log a record of their condition every fifteen minutes.
- To perform related work.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of two years’ experience in a secure juvenile detention facility
- Ability to manage delinquent adolescents
- Ability to write concise, factual reports
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
