How to Obtain a New Address or Change an Address

Get a New Address

Contact your local municipality to get an address for new property or to request a change to your existing property address. The US Post Office does not assign addresses. In Allegheny County, only local municipalities have the authority to assign or change an address.The local municipalities send new addresses and corrections to the county and the US Post Office. The municipality must send a letter (or other notification) to Allegheny County and the US Post Office to assign or correct an address.

Address Management

  • Maintains the county's address database for use by county departments like 911 and Property Assessments
  • Can only make corrections to our records based on documentation from the local municipality.
  • Does not update outside agencies such as utilities or website and applications such as Google Maps and Waze.

Clerical Errors on the Real Estate Website or Another County Record

If you believe information on the Real Estate website is incorrect because of a clerical error, please email us. We can correct clerical errors without you having to go to the municipality.
