Food stamp benefits are used to buy food and help low-income households obtain more nutritious diets by increasing the food purchasing power for all eligible participants.  Food stamps are provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.

Meals for Older Adults

Persons 60 years of age and older, and those who are unable to prepare meals or shop for themselves, can get assistance with meals.

Home Delivered Meals
Home delivered meals are provided to older adults who are unable to shop or cook for themselves.

Lunch at Senior Centers 
Monday through Friday. The menus are designed to provide varied and satisfying fare for older consumers.

Out-of-school Feeding Programs 

Provides meals to children during out-of-school hours, including before school, after school, evenings, weekends and summers.

SummerFood Program

SummerFood Service Program 1-800-851-3838
Serves a nutritious breakfast and lunch to children, 18 years of age and younger, who visit one of the sites throughout Allegheny County (not including most of the City of Pittsburgh) on weekdays throughout the summer. Most sites open June 14 and serve meals through August 20.

This xls.gif listing of all participating sites includes location, opening date, hours of operation, and whether the site is “Open” or “Closed.”  “Open” sites welcome any child under 18 years of age. “Closed” sites require that SummerFood participants be registered for the related program.

Women, Infants and Children (WIC)

The WIC Program is a health and supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women; breastfeeding women up to 12 months postpartum; non-breastfeeding women up to 6 months post-partum; infants and children up to 5 years of age who have a medical/nutritional risk and meet financial eligibility criteria.  WIC is provided by the Allegheny County Health Department.

Join the Campaign to End Hunger
There are so many things you can do to help. Write a check. Attend a special event. Volunteer your time. Have a food drive. Take a tour of the Food Bank. Have someone from the Food Bank come speak to your class or group.
