Ken Varhola 

Prior to joining Allegheny County Council as the Chief of Staff, Ken Varhola was a lobbyist for Duquesne Light Company and GenOn Energy. In those roles, he was responsible for building and maintaining relationships with elected officials and their staff at the local, state and federal level in order to achieve the corporate goals and objectives. He also worked with many local municipalities and community groups, bringing corporate sponsorships to worthwhile organizations throughout the state near company facilities.

Ken also spent over 15 years working in the PA House of Representatives and Senate. During his time in the Senate, he worked for three different Senators serving in a variety of capacities; from constituent relations coordinator, Executive Director of the Senate Law and Justice Committee, and Chief of Staff. As constituent relations coordinator, he helped countless people cut through the government “red tape” to get solutions to numerous state-related matters. As Executive Director of Law and Justice, he worked with other Senators and staff members to address legislation pertaining to the PA Liquor Control Board and the PA State Police. And as Chief of Staff, he oversaw the operations of four offices, as well as, legislative and constituent casework.

Ken received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business/Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh; and his MBA from Penn State Capital Campus.
