Allegheny County Jail Policies
Allegheny County and the Allegheny County Jail do not disseminate mug shots to noncriminal justice agencies. The 2025 Mezzacappa vs. Northampton County ruling applies the Criminal History Record Information Act, which provides that police departments are allowed to disseminate mug shots to noncriminal justice agencies “only as they deem necessary to carry out their law enforcement functions.” As a matter of practice, the Allegheny County Police Department will not release mug shots of arrests the department makes unless they determine it is necessary to carry out their law enforcement function.
