The Allegheny County Public Health Laboratory is a CLIA-certified diagnostic testing laboratory that provides infectious disease laboratory testing to the health department and surrounding communities.
The Health Department Laboratories consist of two diagnostic and two forensic laboratories. The diagnostic laboratories include the Public Health and the Middle Hill district, while the forensic laboratories consist of McKeesport and Pittsburgh Drug Testing Laboratories.
The Public Health Laboratory provides testing ranging from diagnostic testing of patient specimens to surveillance and epidemiology, emergency preparedness and response, and is certified for handling biosafety level three pathogens.
