Hard to Recycle Collections

Since 2003, Pennsylvania Resources Council has held Hard to Recycle Collections in Southwestern PA. The goal is to provide responsible and convenient disposal for items that are not eligible for curbside recycling. At these events, individuals have been able to recycle items such as e-waste, cell phones, polystyrene, Freon-containing appliances, tires and more.

Pre-registration is required. Items can be dropped off from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm; all vehicles in line at 1:00 pm will have their materials unloaded. If you have questions, regarding Hard to Recycle Collections, please call 412-488-7490.

Acceptable Items and Fees

$2 per 4′ light tube ($4 per 8′)
$5 per printer
$5 per microwave
$5 per powered lawn care tool (weed whacker, leaf blower, hedge trimmer, garden shear, non-riding lawn mower)
$6 per car tire no rim ($14 with rim) — oversize tires subject to additional fees
$10 per small Freon appliance
$20 per computer monitor
$35 per television (flat screen or CRT)
$45 per television (projection/console)
Hard Drive Data Destruction Verification – first drive is $11, each additional drive is $3 each

$5 Fee per Vehicle for Unlimited Disposal

Computer equipment including CPU (towers), laptops, mice, keyboards, tablets and UPS
Copiers and scanners
DVD Players, VCRs and stereos
Phones (home & cell)
Servers, routers and modems
Shredders

Video game consoles

Pre-registration is required
All forms of payment are accepted; cash is preferred
All items MUST be placed in car trunk or truck bed
Remain in your vehicle at all times while a contractor unloads materials

Acceptable Items and Fees

Check the lists below to see if your items are acceptable and how much it will cost. Some items have a per-item fee; other items can be recycled for a flat one-time fee of $5 for multiple items.
