Lola, Krypto Join TAILS Program at ACJ

Animal Friends staff brough Lola to the ACJ on Aug. 13.

The Allegheny County Jail’s TAILS program has been up and running for more than two months, and the ACJ and Animal Friends continue to celebrate the program’s growth.

Two new TAILS participants arrived on Aug. 13, as Lola and Krypto greeted smiling correctional officers as they entered the facility.

The dogs, who have been living with the same family for many years before being surrendered to Animal Friends, are considered a bonded pair and are offered for adoption together.

Lola and Krypto become the latest participants in the growing program, which has seen two successful adoptions with a third currently pending. Ethel/Ellie and Max have been adopted, while Niko could soon find his forever home. Niko left the ACJ for a routine medical procedure this month, and reports indicate there are several potential adoption candidates interested in him once he recovers.

Katie Vecchi, chief shelter operations manager at Animal Friends, has said the organization is pleased with the partnership with ACJ.

“We knew that any dog who was transferred into the program would be shown endless compassion and dedication,” she said.

As for the new dogs and future ones who enter the program, Vecchi said, “Animal Friends is confident the handlers at ACJ will help prepare them for their new homes.”
