Brandon Ging

Brandon Ging, Esq.

Brandon Ging currently serves as Deputy Director of the Appeals Division, a position he has held since June 2014. He is responsible for supervising attorneys handling appellate and post-conviction cases as well as probation and parole violations.

Prior to joining the Allegheny County Office of the Public Defender, Brandon was a certified law clerk in the Allegheny County District Attorney’s Office, where he was responsible for legal research and writing. He then became a law clerk in the Criminal Division of the Washington County Court of Common Pleas.

In 2008, he began work as an Assistant Public Defender in the Office of the Public Defender. After several months in the Pre-Trial Division, he transitioned to the Appeals Division, where he handled appellate and post-conviction cases for the next five years. In February 2013, he was promoted to Manager of the Pre-Trial Division, where he was responsible for training new attorneys and insuring that clients received effective and competent legal representation at the preliminary hearing stage.

Brandon has represented countless clients before the Pennsylvania Superior Court, and a number of those opinions have been published. He also has represented clients before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court as well as the United States Supreme Court.

Additionally, Brandon was a contributing writer to the inaugural “Pennsylvania Criminal Procedure Handbook: Elements, Analysis, and Application,” and has authored the “Appellate Year in Review” for the Criminal Law Symposium the past two years. He continues to participate as an appellate judge in the Criminal Defense Practicum class at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.

Brandon earned a Bachelor’s degree in History at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown and a Juris Doctorate at the Duquesne University School of Law.
