Allegheny County Jail Announces Death of Incarcerated Individual

PITTSBURGH – Allegheny County Jail Warden Trevor Wingard today reported the death of an incarcerated individual that occurred at the Allegheny County Jail Sunday morning. The individual, a 55-year-old male, was booked into the jail on August 2, 2025, on charges of simple assault and harassment.

At 7:37 a.m., the individual was discovered unresponsive in his cell by correctional staff. A medical emergency was called, and jail healthcare personnel performed lifesaving measures until paramedics arrived. The individual was declared deceased at 8:07 a.m.

The jail has notified the individual’s family.

As is practice, an internal review will be conducted. Additionally, County Police was notified and has initiated an investigation. Identification of the individual and cause and manner of death will be released by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner according to its protocols.
