Rachel Carson Bridge in Pittsburgh to Close June 16-20 and June 23-27

PITTSBURGH – The Department of Public Works announced today that the Rachel Carson (Ninth Street) Bridge in Pittsburgh will close from 6 a.m. on Monday, June 16 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 20 and from 6 a.m. on Monday, June 23 to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 27. The closures are required for crews to safely conduct routine inspection activities.
During the closures, traffic will be detoured using Fort Duquesne Boulevard, the Andy Warhol (Seventh Street) Bridge, and Isabella Street.
The bridge inspection will be done by STV of Pittsburgh and Sofis Company of Independence, PA.
The 995-foot Rachel Carson Bridge carries an average of 10,825 vehicles daily over the Allegheny River between Downtown and the North Shore. The bridge, which opened in 1926, underwent a $24.2 million rehabilitation project from 2019 to 2020.
During the bridge’s last inspection on November 30, 2023, inspectors gave it a condition rating of 6 (fair condition) on a 0-9 scale based on National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) established by the Federal Highway Administration.
