Allegheny County Health Department Opens New Downtown Sexual Health Clinic
More Access. More Services. One Destination.
PITTSBURGH – The Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) is relocating its Sexual Health Clinic to 425 First Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh. The move places the clinic in a more central location within Allegheny County, improves access using public transportation, and brings many of the department's clinical services together in one building. Bringing services together allows patients to more easily access sexual health services, immunizations, pulmonary services, and public health pharmacy resources.
The relocation reflects ACHD's ongoing efforts to remove barriers to care and ensure residents can more easily connect with the services they need. Located in Downtown Pittsburgh, the new clinic site is served by multiple bus routes, the T, bike lanes, and better walkability which makes appointments more convenient for residents traveling from across the county.
"Access to healthcare begins long before a patient walks through the door," said Dr. Jillian Irwin, ACHD Medical Director and Deputy Director for Clinical Services. "By moving to a more central, public transit-accessible location, we're making it easier for people throughout Allegheny County to reach the care they need, when they need it. Every barrier we remove is another opportunity for someone to protect their health."
The new clinic space is located on the fourth floor of the renovated Hartley Rose Building. It is designed to provide a more welcoming, comfortable, and modern experience for patients.
The ACHD Sexual Health Clinic provides confidential HIV and STI testing and treatment, Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV prevention, Hepatitis C treatment, doxycycline post-exposure prophylaxis (DoxyPEP) for bacterial STI prevention, vaccines (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, HPV, and Mpox), cervical cancer screening, emergency contraception, health education, and other essential clinical services. Many services are available at low or no cost, regardless of a patients’ insurance status or ability to pay.
The relocation strengthens coordination across ACHD clinical services in one location which reduces the need for residents to visit different locations.
"Public health works best when services are easy to find, easy to reach, and easy to navigate," said Dr. Irwin. "This move creates more of a one-stop public health destination while ensuring we remain responsible stewards of public resources. It allows us to better serve residents today while positioning us to meet the community's needs for years to come."
Residents seeking services at the new location (425 First Avenue, Fourth Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. Entrance on Cherry Way) can find clinic information, hours, and appointment details by visiting the Allegheny County Health Department website at AlleghenyCounty.us/SexualHealth.
