Allegheny County Unveils Renovated McKeesport Public Health Office

Modernized facility expands access to essential health services and removes barriers for residents

MCKEESPORT, PA. – Allegheny County today celebrated the completion of renovations to the Allegheny County Health Department’s McKeesport office at 339 Fifth Avenue, creating a more accessible, modern facility where residents can access multiple essential public health services in one location.

The renovated office houses WIC, pediatric dental care, sexual health services, drug screening and plumbing services, bringing together programs that support the health and safety of individuals, families and communities throughout McKeesport and surrounding areas.

The improvements are designed to make the facility easier to navigate and more welcoming for the people who rely on its services, while providing public health staff with a modern environment to serve the community.

“This is what it looks like when government invests directly in the health of a community,” said Allegheny County Executive Sara Innamorato. “We are removing barriers that should never have stood between residents and the services they need. Whether someone is pushing a stroller, has mobility challenges or simply needs a welcoming place to get help, access should never depend on how easy it is to navigate an outdated building. Public health should be accessible to everyone, and it should be delivered with dignity.”

The renovation is part of the County’s broader commitment to bringing public health services closer to residents and recognizing that health is influenced by factors well beyond the doctor’s office.

The McKeesport office provides services addressing nutrition, oral health, sexual health, substance use and the health and safety of homes and communities. Having these services in one location can make it easier for residents to connect with the resources they need.

“Health does not exist in silos, and neither should public health,” said Dr. Iulia Vann, Director of the Allegheny County Health Department. “This facility allows us to bring different services together while creating an environment that is accessible, welcoming and centered on the people we serve. Our responsibility is to meet residents where they are and remove barriers that can stand in the way of better health.”

For McKeesport, the renovated facility represents an investment in the community and a continued local presence for Allegheny County public health services.

“This renovation is about much more than improving a building,” said McKeesport Mayor Thomas Maglicco. “It is about making sure McKeesport residents can access essential services close to home, in a facility that reflects the importance of this community. McKeesport matters, our residents matter, and having strong public health services here makes our entire community stronger.”

The renovated office also strengthens the environment for the public health professionals who provide services to residents every day.

“Ultimately, the success of this investment will be measured by the people who walk through these doors,” Vann said. “It will be measured in families supported, services accessed and barriers removed. A modern public health facility should make one thing clear from the moment someone arrives: You belong here, and we are here to help.”

Today’s ribbon cutting marks the completion of the renovation and the beginning of a new chapter for public health services in McKeesport.

“Investing in public health means investing in people,” Innamorato said. “This renovated facility is an investment in access, in dignity and in the health and future of McKeesport.”
