Solid Waste Management Plan Revision Period

Act 101 of 1988, the Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act, requires counties to revise their Municipal Solid Waste Management Plans at least every 10 years. Allegheny County will begin the revision process in August, 2026, and should complete the project in 18 to 24 months. As part of this project, the Solid Waste Advisory Committee will be reconvened.  

The purpose of the revision process is to:

• Confirm municipal waste disposal capacity for the next 10 years
• Discuss alternate waste processing and/or disposal
• Ensure maximum feasible waste reduction and recycling
• Find ways to better conserve resources
• Continue to examine ways to protect the public health, safety, and welfare from dangers of processing and disposing of municipal waste.

2019 Solid Waste Management Plan

The Allegheny County Solid Waste Management Plan Revision 2019 was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection on July 15, 2019.
