Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) provides publicly funded social services for people in all of Allegheny County. Our purpose is to support people during their most vulnerable times by preventing and resolving crises; to help children and youth grow up safer and healthier, and adults live more securely and independently; and to advocate for support and services so people in Allegheny County can thrive. DHS is the largest human services funder in our region, serving more than 200,000 residents each year through more than 300 community-based agencies. Some of our services include child welfare, family strengthening and youth programs, the homeless system, behavioral health services, supports for people with intellectual disabilities or autism, and help for older adults. The goals we have set to guide us and our partners include working to improve access to care, reducing overuse of coercive services, preventing harm, increasing economic security and ensuring quality.
