Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Advisory Board

The Mental Health and Intellectual Disability (MH/ID) Advisory Board provides guidance to the Allegheny County Department of Human Services (DHS) on services and supports for individuals with mental health needs, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, and co-occurring conditions. 

Membership includes individuals receiving services, family members, advocates, and providers. Their involvement helps ensure that programs are accessible, equitable, and responsive to the needs of children, adults, and families across Allegheny County. 

The board’s presence is mandated by the Mental Health and Intellectual Disability Act of 1966 (formerly the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Act of 1966) and the Mental Health Procedures Act of 1976. 

The MH/ID Advisory Board helps DHS by: 

• Advising on policy, planning, funding priorities, and service delivery
• Reviewing needs across mental health, intellectual disability, early intervention, and related systems
• Providing input on program quality, accessibility, and opportunities for system improvement
• Bringing forward concerns from individuals, families, and community partners
• Supporting collaboration among behavioral health, disability services, and broader human services agencies

Upcoming Meetings

All meetings are held virtually at 4:30 pm on the second Tuesday of every other month.
