Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples Day
Monday, October 12, 2026 | 12:00 AM
to 11:55 PM
President Franklin Delano Roosevelt designated Columbus Day as a national holiday in 1934 and it is still observed on the second Monday in October.
Indigenous Peoples Day honors Native Americans' history, cultures, and resilience, often replacing or coexisting with Columbus Day to challenge the narrative of discovery and acknowledge the harmful impacts of colonization. It recognizes the first inhabitants of the Americas, celebrating their ongoing contributions and sovereignty, with growing official recognition by states and cities, and a first presidential proclamation in 2021.
All county offices will be closed on October 12, 2026.
