Diplomas and badges were awarded to the new correctional officers.

Family members, Allegheny County Jail staff and other invited guests packed the Contact Visits Room at the jail last week to celebrate as the newest cadet class graduated and were sworn in as correctional officers.

Sgt. Randy Justice led the cadets through the often demanding, sometimes grueling, nine-week program during which cadets must successfully complete a physical agility test, classroom work and other training.

The Rev. Dr. Tami Hooker welcomed the new correctional officers and offered words of prayer for their success and safety.

Magisterial District Court Judge James Hanley swore in the new officers and congratulated them on the achievement.

Warden Trevor Wingard also congratulated the new officers and offered some words of advice.

The graduation ceremony ended with a luncheon for the cadets and their families.
