Two More Adoptions, and Two More Dogs Arrive at the ACJ
Published on February 12, 2026
We’re only about a month into 2026, but the Allegheny County Jail TAILS program has already been extremely busy.
Princess Leia, a 50-pound, mixed-breed female who arrived in November, found her forever home in mid-January.
That left Toby, who bounded into the facility on Jan. 9. A mixed-breed hound, Toby was an immediate hit with his handlers, who had little problem getting him ready for adoption. Toby was such a good student that he found his forever home on Jan. 28.
That same day a pair of “bonded” canines, Xavier and Frank, arrived at the ACJ, safely made it through security, survived a ride on the elevator and excitedly met their trainers.
Frank, a 3-year-old Dalmatian, was so comfortable that he quickly went to the artificial turf placed in the Pod gym and did his “business.”
Meanwhile Xavier, a Husky mix, worked his way around the entire gym all the while wagging his tail and checking out his new humans.
The TAILS program is a joint effort between the ACJ and Animal Friends in which incarcerated individuals are taught to train rescue dogs the basic skills needed to increase their chances of being adopted.
If you’re interested in adopting dogs in the TAILS program, visit the Animal Friends adoption page at Adopt a Dog.
