Mobile Crime Unit
Crime Scene Processing
The Mobile Crime Unit provides assistance in photographing and processing crime scenes throughout the county when requested. The unit is staffed with experienced scientists and is equipped to properly document scenes as well as properly recover and preserve any physical evidence.
Proper recovery of physical evidence and documentation is crucial for an accurate reconstruction of the scene.
The unit approaches each scene in an organized manner performing each general step:
Scene Recognition
Scene recognition includes an initial walk through with discovery of physical evidence and determining the pertinence of it.
Documentation
Extensive documentation of each scene can be accomplished by taking notes, sketching and photographing as well as video documentation.
Evidence Collection
The most tedious and time-consuming step of processing the scene is evidence collection. Collection sometimes involves specific equipment such as alternative light sources (ALS), electrostatic lifters and trajectory rods. Specific packaging techniques are also employed in order to properly preserve the evidence.
