Christopher Kearns

Christopher Kearns was appointed as Superintendent in March 2021. Superintendent Kearns has been serving with the Allegheny County Police since 1987. He has served in every rank in the police department.

Superintendent Kearns began his career in 1987 as a patrol officer. In 1989, he was transferred to the Detective Division as an investigator in the Narcotics Section. After six years in Narcotics, he was transferred to the Homicide Section. He remained in Homicide for over twelve years while being promoted to Sergeant and later to Lieutenant.

In 2010 he was promoted to Inspector in the newly created Internal Affairs position at the Allegheny County Jail. He moved to the Pittsburgh International Airport detail (District One Commander) in 2013. In 2017 Superintendent Kearns took over Districts 2 and 3 overseeing patrol of the county parks and the borough of Wilmerding. In 2020 he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent.

Superintendent Kearns holds a bachelor’s degree from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Criminology and he is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy, 240th Session.
